About Us

Our educational resources

Du Bois Enterprises (DBE) is a family owned business founded by Geoff and Sheridan Wood after they sold their music retail company (Harborne & Arthur Ltd - H&A)  in 1997. The retail business had always had a strong emphasis on supplying schools and educational institutions so it made sense to make that the prime focus for the new company.

Geoff had been with Harborne & Arthur since 1971, giving him immense experience in dealing with the teaching fraternity and  H&A's legacy of knowledge, service and dedication was naturally assimilated into this new business.

Geoff and Sheridan recognized that teachers were increasingly becoming too busy to visit retail stores to source products and made it their key point of difference to visit schools nationwide, offering new and exciting products on a regular basis.

One of these products is a system called “Music Room” - a classroom developmental program that assists non-music teachers to present music to their students without formal training. This resource has achieved a status and reputation unprecedented in the industry. There are now more than two thousand of these units currently being used in NZ schools.

DBE also pioneered the idea of encouraging primary schools to adopt the Musical Instrument Kit approach, where each syndicate has a specially designed range of un-tuned percussion instruments in a cube container, making it very easy to store and use. In the increasingly hectic and demanding classroom environment, this kit system has won high praise in both NZ and Australia

The company has grown from its initial music only product offering to now providing
  • Books and teaching resources for school libraries
  • Literacy and ESOL departments
  • English and Social Studies departments
  • Maths and Science departments
with food technology and hygiene also on the list.

Du Bois Enterprises provides a nationwide microbiological swimming pool testing service which allows users to comply with the New Zealand Standard for pool water quality (NZS 5826: 2000).
For details on this standard please see link to knowledge base

Over the last two years, Geoff and Sheridan have put a lot of effort and focus into sourcing materials for students who are under achieving in reading. As a result DBE now has a fine range of high interest/low reading age books for primary and secondary pupils that are used in libraries and literacy and ESOL departments.

DBE has exclusive distribution arrangements with
  • Bushfire Press (Australia)
  • Insight Publications(Australia)
  • Network Educational Australia
  • and Food Tech Solutions (NZ)

Our Company operates from premises in Meadowbank, Auckland and has additional Warehousing facilities in nearby Glen Innes.

Geoff and Sheridan regularly attend library and music conferences in New Zealand and Europe and have a particular flair for trade displays. Their most recent event was a display at the NAME (National Association for Music Educators) in Staffordshire UK, where in addition to launching the Music Room resource in the UK, they provided two much talked about workshops

This new website is intended to make Du Bois ideas, concepts and exclusive resources more accessible to teachers and others with an interest in education.  The site will enable teachers to quickly find the products that they need via an easy to use “search’ facility and then order On-line for quick and easy delivery.

Our goal is to be as easy and effective to deal with as possible.
